Congratulations on your decision to learn to ride!
If you are very new to cycling, haven’t ridden in a very long time, or have never even been on a bike before, the VACC offers one-on-one instruction that can get you pedaling. Open to all ages, those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or other adult.
We spread our Learn to Ride lessons over two or three sessions, usually scheduled a week or so apart. Subject to instructor availability, these can be scheduled to suit your convenience and preference in terms of time and day. The lessons can take place anywhere suitable (ie. a smooth, paved surface, no traffic) which is mutually convenient for you and the instructor. We have a standard location and an extra charge of $30 may be applied for travel outside the city of Vancouver.
Once you decide you’d like to go ahead with the lessons, we’ll put you directly in touch with an instructor to work out the details of time and place.
Our experienced and supportive Learn to Ride instructors are nationally bike-safety certified. They are kind and nurturing women and men who will make sure that your learning experience is safe, fun and non-intimidating, no matter how nervous you may be or how little previous cycling experience you might have. They will take you through the basics of balance, steering, and pedaling, towards the goal of being able to ride on your own.
The cost for VACC Members is $150 for three hours of instruction. Non-members pay $175 +HST = $196
We recommend, if possible, that you have a bike of your own to use for these lessons, as you will be asked to practice in between sessions. If you don't own a bike, we recommend that you try to rent or borrow a bike that you can start to feel comfortable on, as you will need to practice between sessions.
You will also need a helmet for your lessons.
